First conference of "Initiative Smart Grid 2.0"

31/03/2017

Over 20 experts from Germany and Switzerland attended the "Initiative Smart Grid 2.0"-conference in Karlsruhe. This was organized at the offices of EIFER, the joint research center of EDF and KIT, jointly with Easy Smart Grid.

The "relaunch" of smart grid concepts - expressed by "2.0" - is the logical result of the insight that the traditional approach of adding more ICT to an "old" system simply is not good enough. Therefore, conference contributions and workshops focussed on likely system characteristics and ICT needs. We will need more decentrality in topology as well as management, and therefore different ICT solutions. The participants discussed elements of robust, secure and cost efficient energy systems where volatile energy supply dominates. (Foto: Joerg Donecker)
