EU islands go for 100% renewable energy

22/09/2017

Islands  typically have abundant renewable resources from sun, wind and waves. This combination makes them ideal pioneers for the energy transition. By converting to renewables, they save carbon dioxide and money. They also boost energy independence and local jobs.

Consequently, the European Commission started a programme to support its 15 million citizens living on the 2700 European islands in their ambition for cleaner and cheaper energy. The inaugurational event took place in Chania/Crete, with the presence of Energy and Climate Commissioner Miguel Canete and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Easy Smart Grid was invited to present itself and meet participants from all over Europe interested in achieving higher renewable shares at lower cost.
