A much higher share of renewable energy is necessary, possible and already today a cost effective option for island power systems around the world. The 3rd International Hybrid Power Systems Workshop took place on Tenerife, the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Economic and ecologic sustainability of these isolated island grids requires replacing fossils as their main energy source by growing shares of renewables. Experts from all over the world shared project experiences and identified necessary improvements to overcome existing limitations. The workshop allowed valuable exchanges, and Easy Smart Grid’s poster presenting smarter ways to realize energy storage, digitization and step-by-step migration was very well received.
