21.01.2015: Easy Smart Grid participates in visit organized by energy minister to Denmark

Intensified collaboration and use of complementary know-how from two European countries should accelerate energy system transformation

Denmark has energy plans at least as ambitious as those of Germany and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg going for 100% Renewables in 2050. While the south-west of Germany is very strong in photovoltaics, electro-mobility and batteries, Denmark has complementary experience in district heating, combined heat and power (CHP) and integration of wind energy. In 2014, 39% of electricity consumed in Denmark came from wind!
During the visit of a delegation lasting from Jan 21st to 24th, the ministers responsible for climate protection and energy of Denmark, Rasmus Helveg Petersen (right), and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Franz Untersteller, signed an agreement for future more intense collaboration (Foto).
As part of the delegation travelling with the minister, Thomas Walter had many opportunities to learn about the Danish experience and exchange with Danish and German colleagues. Major issues were the importance of combined heat and power (CHP), thermal storage and grids to provide flexibility, and real time markets to balance the grid. Both are important elements also of the Easy Smart Grid technology.
Thomas also could meet experts at DTU Power Lab. They work at the forefront of renewable integration, real time markets, and also involved in one of Denmarks most challenging integration project, Bornholm Ecogrid.
This stimulating visit to Denmark could lead to concrete collaborations soon. Stay tuned!
